"The next generation is getting involved", says the Abbeville Meridional.
Last week in Senate committee, two courageous students from St. Thomas More High School in Lafayette testified in favor of SCR52, the Convention of States resolution. From the Abbeville Meridional,
Senator Page Cortez (SD-23 Lafayette) was a Co-Sponsor and presented the resolution to the Senate and Governmental Affairs committee, along with riveting testimony from two St. Thomas More High School civics students, Madeline Mahtook and Anna Grace Schoeffler. The young ladies told the committee - “... the federal government has expanded its authority and its will upon the entire nation seeking to create on unified state as opposed to fifty sovereign states... we, the next generation, must seek to restore [the Constitution’s] original intent ... it’s time for the states to take a stand in order to save the future of our great nation . . .”
The resolution was reported favorably by the committee and it received a favorable vote of 29-6 on the Senate floor this Tuesday. It now heads over to the House.
It really makes me proud to see Louisiana high school students taking a stand against federal overreach and standing for a solution that's as big as the problem. It gives me great hope that the fight for liberty will continue on with the next generation.
Thank you Madeline and Anna for your AWESOME testimony!
