Broken But Unbowed

Governor Abbott Announces Book on His Life, and the Convention of States

On April 4th, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced the upcoming publication of his first book, entitled "Broken But Unbowed", from Threshold Editions.

The book details the Governor's life story, and his promotion of the Convention of States as the means to combat an overreaching federal government.  The announcement comes just three months after the Governor's call for the Texas Legislature to join with other states in calling for a "Convention of States".

The Governor will also embark on a book tour to promote both the book and the Convention of States after the book's release on May 17th.

The grassroots are the key to victory -- high numbers ensure success. So are you ready to talk to your friends about the Convention of States Project?

Join our team as a District Captain!

Our goal is to find one District Captain in every Texas state house district. The District Captain's mission is simple: find 100 people in your district willing to contact their state legislators in support of Convention of States legislation next session.

It doesn't take a huge time commitment to make a difference. Five constituent phone calls is often enough to move an issue to the top of a state legislator's priority list. In person meetings are even more effective.

Get involved today by reaching out to your state legislators. Don't know what to say?

Victory in the State Affairs Committee!

Texas experienced the first victory of the 2017 legislative session when the Senate State Affairs Committee voted to send the Convention of States resolution, SJR 2, on to the Senate floor for consideration by the entire chamber. The vote was 6-2, with Senators Birdwell, Creighton, Schwertner, Hughes, Nelson, and Huffman voting in favor of the resolution. Senators Zaffirini and Lucio were opposed, with Senator Estes absent due to illness.

The principal author of SJR 2, Senator Brian Birdwell, opened the discussion by laying out the need for an Article V convention. "I believe we're at the precipice of history that we've not seen before," he said. "For years, we have watched the executive, judicial and legislative branches usurp more and more power from the states, issuing dictates that become de facto law by either completely bypassing the legislative branch or acting upon issues the federal government has no constitutional authority to manage or act upon." The time has come for states need to act, Birdwell explained, because Congress has shown itself unwilling to address our broken federal system.
