Iowa Needs Your Help to Pass COS Resolution!

Iowa Needs Your Help to Pass COS Resolution!

Last year, the Convention of States Resolution in Iowa passed the House by a healthy margin, moving into Senate subcommittee where it is being deliberated this year. However, the concerns of Senate leadership have stalled this resolution out, and the funnel deadline of March 11th is fast approaching.

The COS resolution gives the states an opportunity to meet with each other and discuss and vote on proposals for Constitutional amendments to limit the power and scope of the federal government. This is a power the states must assert if we are ever to address the overreach of the federal government. Too many of Iowa’s policies are being written in Washington D.C., far away from the Iowans they impact.  Too much of our money is being taken in order to fund pet projects of federal legislators in other states. Too often are the thoughtful policies passed by our house and senate, and signed into law by our governor, overturned by a rule or regulation from an unelected bureaucracy, a Supreme Court mandate, an executive action, or the whims of the federal Congress. Our state representatives have a duty in the Constitution to address this overreach.

So what can you do to help today?

Send a short email to your representative and senator to let them know we must pass HJR 8. The form emails below are provided for your use, or you can certainly send a personal email as well.

Next, please call your senator and representative to make sure they will put pressure on their leadership and, in the Senate, will support the resolution to passage.

To find your legislator, follow this link to the Iowa Legislature website and enter your address for an accurate listing. By selecting your legislator’s name, you can view both their email address and phone number. You can also call the Senate and House switchboards during the weekday and request to speak with your legislator.

House Switchboard: (515)281-3221

Senate Switchboard: (515)281-3371

When speaking with your legislator, please be courteous, and thank them for the work they are doing on your behalf. Please urge your representatives to speak to their leadership to ensure they know they must do whatever they can to ensure HJR 8 passes in the Senate. When speaking to your Senator, please urge them to support HJR 8 to passage and to speak with their leadership to ensure they know HJR 8 should be given a fair vote.

Sample Representative:

Representative,

The Convention of States Resolution, HJR8, is stalled in the Senate State Government subcommittee due to concerns of the leadership. Please ensure House leadership knows that your constituents feel we must do everything possible to help this pass in the Senate. Article V is a tool from the Framers to the states to use against an overpowering federal government, and it’s the duty of our state representatives to protect Iowa’s sovereignty and her citizens. Thank you for passing this in the House last year and I hope you will speak with your colleagues to ensure it does the same in the Senate.

Thank you

Thank You

Thank you for working to ensure COS passes in Iowa. Your dedication to liberty and the future of America is something for which future generations will be always grateful. In days of political and societal confusion, where it seems too often that evil is being called good, and good, evil, you have chosen to pursue a path of clarity left to us by our framers. Thank you for all that you do.
