Iowa

Welcome to Convention of States Iowa, one of the state’s fastest growing grassroots movements!

In the past year, we have taken huge steps towards passing the Convention of States application to limit the runaway power of Washington, D.C. This legislative season, House Majority Whip, Rep. Chris Hagenow filed Iowa’s Convention of States resolution -- HJR 8.

Rep. Hagenow, supported by our Iowa volunteer team, secured 52 co-sponsors. The resolution passed the House Judiciary Committee, and then the House floor with a vote of 54-43. We are excited to partner with the hard-working members of the Senate to push Iowa’s application through to completion in 2016.

Representative,

The Convention of States Resolution, HJR8, is stalled in the Senate State Government subcommittee due to concerns of the leadership. Please ensure House leadership knows that your constituents feel we must do everything possible to help this pass in the Senate. Article V is a tool from the Framers to the states to use against an overpowering federal government, and it’s the duty of our state representatives to protect Iowa’s sovereignty and her citizens. Thank you for passing this in the House last year and I hope you will speak with your colleagues to ensure it does the same in the Senate.

Thank you
